The Carnival season is officially in full swing, and it promises to be a spectacular display of Virgin Islands culture, music, food, and tradition. Here’s everything you need to know:

St. Thomas Carnival Updates & Guidelines:

Carnival season is a time to celebrate, but it’s also important to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment. Director Ian Turnbull of the Division of Festivals and Chief Deborah Hodge from the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) have provided crucial updates on the events and safety guidelines for this year’s festivities.

  • No Face Masks During Jouvert: For the safety and security of all revelers, no face masks or full-face coverings will be allowed during Jouvert. This policy ensures that all individuals can be easily identified, especially in crowded areas, to maintain security during the event.

  • Carnival Safety Guidelines: Chief Hodge emphasized the importance of staying aware of your surroundings, avoiding texting while driving, and parking only in designated areas. Additionally, designated drivers are essential if consuming alcohol. To further enhance safety, VIPD will be utilizing drone cameras and surveillance in high-traffic areas throughout the territory.

VIPD sent a clear message to all Carnival-goers:

“If you act up you get locked up”

The VIPD is committed to ensuring that everyone enjoys the festivities responsibly, and any disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Honorees to Be Celebrated:

This year’s Carnival will also honor several outstanding individuals and groups that have contributed to the cultural fabric of the Virgin Islands. Director Turnbull announced the following honorees:

  • Village Honorees: Wallace Vance and Steve Penny, legends in the Virgin Islands music industry who have helped shape the local sound and cultural landscape.

  • Food Fair Honoree: Miranda Isaac, a celebrated culinary expert and artisan who has made a significant impact on the territory’s food culture.

  • Children’s Parade Honorees: The Saint Thomas Majorettes, whose dedication and long-standing presence in the community have made them a staple of the island’s cultural events.

  • Adult Parade Honoree: Shaka Zulu, honored for his contributions to the cultural richness of the Virgin Islands.

These honorees will be celebrated throughout the Carnival season, reminding us of the incredible talent and dedication that continues to define the Virgin Islands’ vibrant culture.
