A Morning Workout Turned Carnival Shakeout Discovery
While out for my morning workout from Havensight to Seaplane and back, I stumbled across something truly special — the Carnival Shakeout 1 Mile / 5K Race on the St. Thomas waterfront!
Hosted by Rock City Run Club and Sports, Parks, and Recreation, the event was full of life and community spirit. One lane of the waterfront was shut down to make way for the racers, and the scene was a beautiful mix of local celebrities, senior citizens, parents with strollers, young children, and professional runners. There was even a lively Mocko Jumbie bringing that unmistakable Virgin Islands energy to the course.
A water station was set up near Vendors Plaza, and runners made their way down to Wendy’s and back. It was more than just a race — it was a vibrant moment of Carnival culture, fitness, and togetherness. From toddlers to seniors, and from strollers to sneakers, everyone was moving with pride.
