The 26th Annual Bordeaux Farmers Rastafari Agriculture & Culture Vegan Food Fair was an event filled with rich culture, delicious plant-based cuisine, and unforgettable experiences. Hosted by We Grow Food Inc., this event showcased the best of Virgin Islands agriculture, sustainable living, and cultural traditions. This year, I documented the fair in a three-part video series on the Flo Dynasty YouTube Channel, capturing the essence of this must-visit celebration. Check out pictures from this event in the gallery below.

Part 1: A Must-Stop Before the Fair

Before stepping into the fairgrounds, I made my traditional stop at one of the family-run vendor spots just outside the entrance. This is now an annual tradition for me—grabbing freshly cooked fry fish, fluffy Johnny cakes, and refreshing local drinks before heading inside. Since the Food Fair is strictly vegan, this is the only place to get fry fishbefore going in.

What makes this vendor unique? They are one of the first families to move to Bordeaux over 50 years ago! Beyond their mouthwatering dishes, they offer a welcoming space with seating, handmade jewelry, authentic African attire, and custom-made apparel. Supporting their business is not just about the food—it’s about embracing their history, craftsmanship, and contribution to the community.

Part 2: Exploring the Food Fair – Vendors, Culture & the Coal Pot Competition

Inside the fair, the energy was high with vendors showcasing everything from organic produce and herbal remedies to handcrafted goods and delicious vegan meals. I had the opportunity to chat with some amazing vendors who are passionate about their crafts and the impact of sustainable farming in the Virgin Islands.

One of the highlights of the day was King Author’s powerful poem performance, setting the tone for the deep cultural connections felt throughout the event. But the real crowd-puller? The Coal Pot Competition! Five contestants raced to light their coal pots and bring their kettles of water to a whistle, with Mr. Shante securing the win—not just with one, but two kettles whistling first! 🏆🔥

Part 3: Music, Performances & Enjoying the Vibes

As the sun began to set, the fair transformed into a stage for some of the most talented Virgin Islands musicians and artists. The evening of Day 1 featured an electrifying lineup, including a performance by DJ Caribbean Queen, who brought the vibes as always.

Sitting back and enjoying freshly chopped sugar cane while soaking in the music was the perfect way to end the night. I later indulged in a delicious plate from Ras Nashamba-I Ital Dub Shop, while my sister opted for an amazing meal from Taste of Royalty. I wasn’t able to stay for Day 2’s performances, but the first night alone was a beautiful celebration of local artistry and cultural pride.

A Weekend of Cultural Immersion & Good Vibes

Beyond the food and entertainment, the fair had live animals for children to interact with and a dedicated Children’s Area, where they learned traditional crafts—such as making bowls from local fruits. Unfortunately, I missed the Bamboula Dancers, a performance that always brings back nostalgic memories of Ms. Christopher’s passionate teachings at Joseph Gomez Elementary. Seeing young girls still embracing this cultural dance, accompanied by rhythmic drumming, is a reminder of how important it is to preserve and celebrate our Virgin Islands traditions.
